Privacy / local conversion

Convert a WhatsApp chat to PDF without uploading it

Threadkeep reads an exported conversation and creates the PDF in your browser. Chat text, participant names, filenames and media bytes are not uploaded for conversion.

Step by step

  1. Save the source privately

Export the conversation from WhatsApp and choose a storage location you trust. An email or drive used during export may already receive the file; consider that stage separately from conversion.

  2. Open the keepsake page

Load Threadkeep on the device that holds the export. The public page loads application files, but it does not ask for a WhatsApp login or fetch chats from your account.

  3. Choose the file

Select the .txt or supported .zip. The browser reads the file you chose. A successful preview does not give Threadkeep access to other conversations or unrelated files on the device.

  4. Review and download

Check the preview, any photo warning and your selection. Download the PDF locally. An offline HTML reading copy is available under More options.

  5. Protect the output

Check your download folder's sharing and synchronization settings. Close the page when finished on a shared device, and remove copies from public or shared locations you did not intend to use.

Follow the whole path of the file

Privacy starts before a converter opens. WhatsApp exports can pass through a share sheet, a mail application, a cloud drive or another device. If you send a transcript to yourself using a service, that service participates in the transfer even if the PDF is later made locally. Choose a workflow consistent with the sensitivity of the conversation.

The same applies after conversion. A browser download may land in a synchronized folder or on a shared computer. Local processing protects a particular stage; it is not a promise that every destination you choose is private.

What the browser processes

The selected file contains the transcript and, for a media package, available attachments. Threadkeep inspects those bytes in the browser, presents a preview and creates readable files there. It does not need your WhatsApp credentials, phone backup or an account registration to do that.

Missing media remains a gap. Local processing does not unlock old backups, retrieve deleted messages or bypass the limits of the source export. A private tool should make those limits visible rather than require you to upload more personal information in the hope of recovery.

Research is a separate decision

The website can measure disclosed product interest and offer optional research. Those activities are distinct from converting a chat. The privacy page explains coded answers, coarse events and optional email consent; it does not describe the chat as research input.

Do not put conversation text, participant names or personal attachment filenames into feedback or a research answer. A product question about your preservation needs can be answered without revealing the messages themselves. A claim that the chat stays local should remain specific rather than become a broader claim of zero networking.

Use care on shared devices

Check who can access the browser profile, download folder and any automatic backup destination. A private source can become visible through ordinary file sharing. Keep only the copies you need in accessible places, and preserve a secure original if the archive matters.

An offline HTML copy can be opened for reading without returning to Threadkeep. A PDF can be searched in a reader. These are ordinary personal files: closing the tab does not delete them, and the daily download allowance is not a privacy control or a storage service.

Questions

Does local conversion mean the website makes no network requests?

No. The public site loads its files, and disclosed product research can send coarse events or consented answers. Those flows do not receive the conversation. The privacy page describes them separately.

Can someone else read the PDF after I save it?

That depends on the device, folder permissions and any sharing or synchronization you use. Threadkeep's conversion behavior does not encrypt the downloaded file or control access to your storage.
